About the Artist
Rachel's work is often characterized by her graphic compositions combining
bright color with semi-abstract and representational form. Her brush
strokes are fluid and spontaneous while revealing the essence of her subjects.
Rachel's oil paintings are typically small and intimate, painted on wood
panel and most often completed alla prima.
Alla prima is Italian for "at once" and in regard to painting refers to the
application of wet paint on wet paint with no underpainting or building
upon layers. Alla prima paintings are completed in one sitting; this technique
lends itself to direct, spontaneous and expressive painting styles.
Artist's Statement
"When I choose an image to paint, it's from a sense of recognition that spurs
feeling into action. Intuition, imagination and impulse fuel the creation
of my paintings."
