About the Artist
Jim McVicker paints from life. When the weather is good he is outdoors
painting the landscape and catching the light as it's filtered through
clearing fog, summer mornings or approaching winter storms. When days
are wet or otherwise not so good for being outdoors he is in the studio
painting a still life or layered interior. Jim is deeply influenced
by a love for the Humboldt County countryside, from the Eel River Valley,
to grand coastal views, to the flower garden he and Theresa share.
Since the late 1970's Jim’s paintings have been widely appreciated as
representing the quintessential Humboldt landscape. His work has shown
extensively and is widely collected. In addition to being represented
by George Stern in Los Angeles and Winfield Gallery in Carmel his work
is frequently on display at Cody Petit Gallery in Eureka.
Artist's Statement
"I've lived in Humboldt County and painted the landscape since moving
here in 1977. I was immediately inspired by the diversity of the
landscape and the chance for a more quiet, simpler life than what I
had known in Southern California.
"I paint with a deep respect and reverence for the natural beauty I am
surrounded by. I celebrate beauty through the painting of the landscape."
