About the Artist
Susan's favorite subject matter is the natural world, especially animals.
She is intrigued by the design possibilities of their form and structure,
markings and movements. Her paintings strive to depict the unique nature
of individual animals (not just generic examples) and she travels
extensively to observe them in their natural habitat. This allows her
the opportunity to more accurately paint their "wildness." Susan is a
contemporary realist painter working with traditional oil techniques,
always striving for a painterly, personal interpretation.
Susan's art has received local and national recognition. Her art has
been exhibited in the Arts for the Parks Top 100, the Bennington
Center for the Arts' "Art and the Animal Kingdom" and American Artists Abroad",
and the California Art Club's "Wild Things".
Susan is a member of the Oil Painters of America and the California
Art Club, and a Signature Member of the Society of Animal Artists and Artists
for Conservation.
Artist's Statement
"I strongly believe that the natural world has an intrinsic value
separate from any that humans might apply to it. Communicating that
value is one of my goals as an artist. Perhaps one thing my paintings
can do is demonstrate how much there is to lose in a world where human
pressure is causing more extinctions and habitat destruction than at
any time since the age of the dinosaurs."
